Maria Stansfield MSST

Maria Stansfield

Maria founded Stansfield Sports Injury Clinic in 2012 and is the Lead Therapist. Maria studied at Edge Hill University and gained a Bachelor of Science degree with honours, she then went on to complete her Master of Science degree in Sports Therapy at the University of Central Lancashire. Maria is an accredited and insured member of the Society of Sports Therapists.

Maria has a wide array of experience in elite sport including 7 years with Wigan Warriors Rugby League First Team, with 3 years as a Consultant Therapist to the First Team. Maria also worked with England Rugby League First Team and Knights for several years. During her time with Wigan Warriors she contributed towards their success of winning the Super League Grand Final twice, Challenge Cup twice and the World Club Championship.

Additionally to her experience in Rugby League, Maria has worked for most of her career with Runners of all abilities including Olympic and European, with a speciality in Marathon and Ultra event runners and Triathletes. Maria has also worked for many years with Boxers of different levels from amateur to professional. Maria also has a keen interest in Cycling and treats former professional Cyclist Bex Rimmington and newly professional Theo Hartley. Maria has also more recently worked with Manchester City Women’s Football Club.

Maria’s main area of interest is the foot and ankle; conditions including stress fractures, shin conditions, plantar fasciitis and tendinopathies. With Maria’s background in Biomechanics and additional training, she is also able to custom make orthotics. Maria also has a wide array of experience in post- surgery conditions and rehabilitation including: ACL reconstruction, Shoulder labral repairs and stabilisations.

Gus Muncaster MSST BSc (Hons)

Gus Muncaster

Gus joined the SSIC Team in 2014 as a highly experienced Consultant Therapist. Gus worked as Head Therapist at Bamber Bridge Football Club for over 6 years. Gus continues to work with Blackburn Hawks Ice Hockey Team, England Rugby League, Wigan Warriors and Sydney Roosters RFL Team whilst they were in the UK for the World Club Challenge. Gus is Clinical Director of SSIC's Sister Clinic Performa Therapy in Leyland. Maria and Gus combined the SSIC and Performa Therapy Clinics in 2015 to allow our Clients to experience the exceptional service that they deserve.

Gus's favourite area of treatment is the Spine and he continues to develop his skills in myofascial release.

Steph Harper

Steph Harper

Steph joined the SSIC Team in 2015 and works as a Consultant Sports Rehabilitator.

After 7 years working in Fitness, Personal Training and Exercise Prescription, Steph realised she excelled in Injury Management. Steph went on to study for her Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in Sports Rehabilitation at the University of Bolton. Steph is a fully insured member of the British Association of Sports Rehabilitators and Trainers (BASRaT). Steph works at our sister clinic Logical Injury Rehab in Blackburn.

Steph has previously worked with Bolton Wanderers Academy Team and more recently at Blackburn Rovers Football Club Academy Team since 2016. Steph is our go to Clinician for Childhood and Adolescent athlete injuries.

Steph has previously worked at the British Transplant Games, multiple 10K events and assisted in the management of the Hell of a Hill 5 Day Marathon Challenge.

Steph also has a keen interest in MMA and her favourite areas of treatment are the Shoulder and Knee.

Jonny Collier

Jonathan Collier

Jonathan joined the team in 2015. Jonathan is our Consultant Sports Rehabilitator and a fully insured member of BASRaT. Jonathan graduated from the University of Bolton with a first class Bachelor of Science with honours degree in Sport Rehabilitation and then went on further to study his Masters of Science degree at the University of Salford in Sports Injury Rehabilitation with Merit. Since the early stages of his career, Jonathan has worked closely with the Wigan Warriors successful Academy and Scholarship Rugby League teams. The main bulk of his sporting experience is in professional Rugby League, working with teams such as; Wigan Warriors, Salford Red Devils and London Broncos. He has since gone on to work in Football with the Wigan Athletic Academy team. Jonathan also works at our Leyland based sister clinic, Performa Therapy.

Jonathan's specialist area in the clinic is the Lumbar Spine and Sacroiliac joints, the treatment and management of acute and chronic lower back pain.

Adam Westwell MRICS

Adam Westwell

Adam founded SSIC in 2012 with Clinical Director Maria. Adam is an RICS Chartered Surveyor in Commercial Property. Adam has a vast array of experience in Business Management and Development. Adam's business experience includes major high street banks and corporate clients. Adam continues to assist in the development, management and marketing of SSIC. Adam participates in Cycling and Running, following a love of Golf and a handicap of 5.

Adam is a member of Bodytorq Racing and competes in Criterium, Time Trials and Road Races..
